Who we are
Tappet Garage is a maintenance and warranty log for your vehicles. Questions about this policy: support@gettappet.com.
What we store
- Your account: the email address and password you sign up with. Until you create an account, the app uses a private guest account tied to that install.
- What you enter: vehicles (year, make, model, VIN, mileage, nickname, photos), service records, parts, prices, warranties, reminders, inspection results, notes, and the shops and stores you save.
- Files you add: photos and PDFs of receipts, invoices, warranty paperwork and your vehicles.
We don't collect your location, contacts, or browsing activity, and the app contains no advertising or analytics trackers.
How your data is used
Only to run the app for you: show your records, calculate reminders and warranty status, schedule reminders on your phone, and read documents you choose to scan. Your records are visible only to your account and to people you choose to share a vehicle with.
Scanning documents (AI reading)
When you use a SCAN feature (receipts, invoices, warranty cards, part boxes, dashboard photos), the image or PDF is uploaded and sent to Anthropic's Claude AI service, which reads it and returns the details (store, date, parts, prices, warranty terms, mileage) for you to check before anything is saved. The temporary copy used for reading is deleted right after. The reader is instructed not to extract card numbers or your personal contact details. Anthropic processes this content to provide the service and, under its commercial terms, does not use it to train its models. If you choose to keep the scanned page as a receipt, it's stored with your records like any other file.
Services we use
- Google Firebase — sign-in, the database for your records, and storage for your files. Data is encrypted in transit and stored by Google with encryption at rest.
- Anthropic (Claude) — reading documents you scan (see above).
- NHTSA (U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) — when you decode a VIN or check recalls, the VIN or year/make/model is sent to NHTSA's public lookup service.
- Expo — delivers app updates to your phone.
- Maps and phone apps — when you tap NAVIGATE or CALL, the address or number is handed to the app you pick (e.g. Google Maps, Waze). We don't see what happens there.
We don't sell or rent your data, and we don't share it with anyone else unless the law requires it.
Sharing you choose
When you use SHARE (for example, sharing a service record), you decide what is sent and to whom.
When you share a vehicle, the person who accepts your invite code can see that vehicle's records, parts, warranties, photos and receipts, and sees your name as the owner. A Helper can also add to them (mileage, services, parts, photos); a Viewer can only look. Records they add show their name. You can change their role or stop sharing at any time, and they can leave. If you hand over a vehicle, it and its whole history (including its files) move to the new owner's account.
Keeping and deleting your data
Your data is kept until you delete it. You can delete individual records and files at any time. To delete everything, open Account → DELETE ACCOUNT (or DELETE ALL MY DATA on a guest account): this permanently removes your vehicles, records, parts, warranties, reminders, photos, receipts and your login. You can also email support@gettappet.com to ask for deletion.
Children
Tappet Garage isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their information.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date above and, for important changes, tell you in the app.
